The son Ernest Adam

So Sarah’s oldest son Ernest Adam seems to alread live in the US, just as James Thomas now does. It turns out, Ernest Adam is in Dublin, Ireland, on the 3rd April 1924. He is on his way to the consulate of the USA to apply for a travel passport for his return to the US. He testifies that he had lived in Germany from 1902 to 1911, but that he was born in the US. The passport is granted and Ernest Adam travels to the US on 28th June 1924 on board the ship “Cedric” from the White Star Line.

However, he is not the only one on the passenger list. He travels together with his wife Mary. She is 35 years old, he is 26 years old. When Mary applies for naturalization in the US later (in 1927), she states that they have married in 1923. Her maiden name is O’Hara, she is from Ireland too. The last address they give when they leave is in Ireland, the place is called Killure. So, when Ernest’s mother arrives in New York in 1931, they already live there since 7 years. The address in New York, however (423 W 22nd street) is not a particularly good one. Ernest Adam and Mary live there as lodgers together with 19 other people. Ernest Adam is superintendant in a theater but seems not to earn enough to rent a flat of his own. Already in 1925, they stayed at this address, but back then they were not listed as lodgers. After 1925, Ernest states that he is a carpenter.
