4c. Ernst Christian Bartholin Engellenner (1836–1900)

Ernst Christian Bartholin inherits the name of his father and is born in 1836. In the year 1855 he is an apprentice in Schleswig at the shoemaker Peter Otto Wilhelm Hamann. 1860 he is in Flensburg as a shoemaker journeyman. He lives at shoemaker Claus Heinrich Timm’s place in Felnsburg, in the Olus-Samson-Gang No. 285 in the front house (1st level) together with the family of Claus Timm and eight other journeymen and two apprentices.

In 1882, a shoemaker called E.C.B. Engellenner emerges in the address book of Altona. At that time, Ernst is 42 years old. First, he lives in Böhmkenstraße, then in the little Bergstraße 9, in the back yard. In 1884, he has moved to Große Marienstraße and stays there until 1900 when he vanishes from the address book. The name Engellenner, however, has already spread around in Altona and in Hamburg so we must assume he had a family there. From about 1900, we find workers, machine operators, roofers, locksmiths, ship cooks, decorators, public servants and stone carriers having the surname Engellenner. Currently, I only could idenfiy this single child:

  • Heinrich Bernhard Christian Engellenner (1871–1938)
